Hello Everyone Investing in Hamilton Real Estate!!
Thanks for all the emails, tweets, texts, likes, comments, etc about my laser eye surgery last Friday!! I’m happy to report all is well. The operation itself is a bit awkward since someone is handling my eyes. I can put my own contact lenses in but other than that, no one has really touched my eyes before. The surgery itself other than the whole eyes thing was less painful than going to the dentist to repair a tooth cavity but then again I paid top dollar for the treatment, at the most expensive clinic in Toronto.
“Aren’t there places advertising $599 per eye?” “That’s a lot of money!” were common responses I received when I told them how much the operation cost.  To me this makes perfect sense, these are my eyes and the only eyes I’ll have the rest of my life. My surgeon is the head of Opthamalogy at his hospital so he does serious surgeries on a regular basis. My own Opthamalogist referred me to this surgeon. My sister and friend Aneta of My Mortgage Sherpa had positive experiences earlier this year and Aneta is one of the most diligent researches I know. Other laser eye clinics have several surgeons and some turnover every few years. My surgeon has completed over 100,000 successful eye surguries.
To me, the decision was simple after completing my own diligence as to who was the best and I’m the first to admit, as a real estate investor, we do not need the BEST professional for every job. I don’t need a licensed plumber to unplug a toilet or a licensed carpenter to install baseboards. But when it comes to operating on my eyes, I would settle for nothing less than the best.
Now apply that to your real estate business. For many of you, your real estate business will be your retirement fund or provide you and your family enough cashflow so you’re less reliant on your job income. How important is your financial future to you? For some of you, financial freedom is your #1 goal and when its that important, would you allow mediocre professionals on your real estate team? Lawyers who don’t call you back, contractors who don’t show up for the job, property managers who collect rent most of the time? Investment Realtors who only know of investing but own nothing themselves? For the sophisticated investors, I think not. Only the best will do. Now I’m not saying our team is the best but what I do know is our clients and friends are damn happy. Just last week our home inspector with 25 years experience stated our clients’ houses near Niagara College were the best built homes he’s ever seen. We didn’t build them but we certainly did recommend them to our clients.
For those of you who are looking to build your power team including Realtors, we’re happy to interview for the position and I can’t recommend enough that you do reference checks (I know too many investors who have made poor investments while working with professionals who were less than that best). To check my references, the best thing to do is meet/network with our clients at the next Mr Hamilton’s Inner Circle Meeting and/or our Hamilton Investor Boot Camp on September 21st (email Meaghan (at) mrhamilton.ca if you would like to attend), and/or a future REIN meeting.
Inner Circle Members, I’ll see you Saturday!
Till next time – Happy Hamilton Investing Everyone!

Great post, Erwin, I’m glad to hear that all went well with your surgery. I love the analogy you’ve included here, as I love how you always apply your own personal experiences to investing and the industry. What you say here is so true. It’s funny how we always expect the best from ourselves and our own performance, but how rarely we reassess those we’re working with to ensure that we’re also working with the very best people. Enjoy your new sight, and thanks again for the post!
