Mr. Hamilton Winner of REIN’s Most Presitigious Award

Hello Hamilton Real Estate Investors and Happy New Year! (And happy new year to everyone celebrating the new lunar year!!)

Thank to everyone who nominated me for the Michael Millenaar Memorial Award for Leadership!!  To be nominated was a honour, to win was a complete and utter shock as I do not see myself in same echelon as past winners Quentin D’Sousa, Brian Persaud, Brian Pulis and of course the incomparable Tahani Aburaneh who beat me and won in 2012.

The award is given to the member who has assisted other members in becoming successful in their real estate aquisitions.

I honestly still do not feel deserving of this award as I remember being in the audience each year in awe and thinking I could never win such an award.  The past winners have accomplished so much, me, there’s many days I feel as though I don’t know what I’m doing.  To be nominated in 2012 was a complete surprise as I was on vacation when REIN reached out to me and the email was in my spam folder… It just wasn’t meant to be 😛

Here is the unabridged version of the thank you speech I gave that night:

I’d like to say thank to Don Campbell and everyone at REIN: Richard, Patrick, Russell Westcott and the whole REIN community including its members for teaching, supporting and inspiring me to transition from the corporate world for the world of real estate investments.

When I first learned I had been nominated for the award, it forced me to pause and reflect on what I’ve been through.  In the past three years, I’ve had some ups and downs:

• quit my job, started a Realtor business,
• got divorced, sold all my rental properties,
• moved houses three times, came down with shingles,
• Then we bought a couple properties, took more vacation than I ever had before
• Married my best friend and we’re expecting our first child next month.

Over that same period, I’ve been fortunate to be able to put together a team that values helping people and for that I am grateful so thank you.

Thank you to our REIN member clients and everyone who nominated me for the award, I am both honoured and humbled by your kind words.  Your stories on how we have helped make a difference in your lives means more than anything and again, I thank you.

A special thank you to Don Campbell for writing a little book called Real Estate Investing in Canada, forming a team of educators, and organizing the REIN network.  That book and this network has been a catalyst in my life to strive for more, build wealth, help others, and provide for my family.

Reading that again almost makes me choke up like I did that night.. lol

For the next weeks/posts, we’ll get back to what’s going on in Hamilton PLUS I’d like to dissect for you what went into an award winning year so that you may do the same.  Honestly, if I can do it, you can do it to and we enjoy nothing more than to celebrate the successes of our clients like Justin Chung who won Joint Venture Partner for 2013
