WE DID IT!!! Hamilton Basket Brigade to Feed 150 Families

Great news! We exceeded our fundraising target of $12,000 to provide 150+ families in need with a Thanksgiving dinner this Saturday, Oct 10th, at Melrose United Church atÂ 85 Stanley Ave, Hamilton, ON.

This all started when I was donating, packing and delivering Thanksgiving dinners in Brampton for the last four years and thought I could selfishly cut down on my commuteÂ and more importantly start something in my own community. My first recruit was Roger ofÂ Augerproperties.ca since he has a heart of gold. Â Our plan was to feed six families, three families each. Â Roger asked around at his kids’ schools and we immediately had requests to feed 16 families. Â I made a commitment that we were not going to say no to these families. And now this newly recreated logistics issue, we need someone with phenomenal organizational skills who loved charity work: recruit #2 was my part-time assistant Maria who many of you know and she is the back bone of our whole operation.

The list of families we had to feed quickly ballooned to 35 with a final number at 37 on the day of Thanksgiving 2014, so we asked around our friends and family for volunteers and donations to make it all happen.

For Easter 2015, we grew our number of families to 75. Â Doubling the size of our operation required more resources and moving locations as we could no longer fit in Roger’s house’s main floor. Â We raised double the donations and doubled the volunteers.

For Thanksgiving, we set a Herculean goal to double the number of families again to 150. Â At no time did I think this was possible but you all proved me wrong. Â I say you all because my network of friends/clients/associates made 95% of the donations… I literally had tears in my eyes when our friend Tim Collins of studentrentalinvesting.com andÂ theanxietypodcast.comÂ made the donation of $85 so thank you Tim!

We now sit around $12,750 in funds raised so we’ll be expanding to feed 160 or more families in need. Â Groceries are being purchased, volunteers have been dispatched and we’re rearing to go. Â One place where we could use some help is media coverage. I’ve yet to hear back from any of the major news outlets so if you know anyone please let them know what we’re up to and where we are going to be on Saturday, Oct 10th, 8:30am, Melrose United Church at 85 Stanley Ave, Hamilton, ON.
