Hello Hamilton Real Estate Investors!!
It’s been too long since I’ve seen my REIN friends as I had the misfortune of being in Thailand during December’s meeting. The night started at dinner with Margaret, Todor and Andrew Macdonald at an Indian restaurant just east of the conference center. We all got caught up on everyone’s holidays and of course talked about each others real estate. We’re all fans of having dinner here right before the meeting so we can beat traffic, hang out with like minded investors/friends and the food is terrific! I always get the saag paneer and galub jamun for dessert 🙂
The meeting was fantastic as always. Shayle Rothman’s presentation on JV agreements was informative and so was Calum Ross’ mortgage review of 2012 and predictions for 2013. Both are really important to know for any sophisticated investor.
During break I had a lengthy discussion with a client who is a real estate broker in Toronto with over 25 years experience. We talked about the market and I shared with him where I felt the opportunities are, nothing unusual. Where he surprised me was when he asked permission to attend our next Mr Hamilton’s REIC members meeting. He’s been getting the invitations so i’m not sure why he’s asking. He tells me he wants to learn from me and apply what I do in his hometown. To provide you readers some context, he trains realtors, does higher volume and at much higher price points than I do. Likely, he is in the top 3% of Realtors in terms of income (which I am not). Yet he spoke so highly of our systems, of his experience working with us, how we provided him our rolodex of professionals, organized the inspection, contractors, paperwork and the support he received. This coming from someone I look up to… crazy.
And the awesome night continued…
A few weeks ago, my friend and client Justin Chung provided us with a guest post: Justin the Rock Star Investor and wouldn’t you know it, I’m not they only one who thinks he’s a winner.
Justin Chung – 2012 Top Player of the Year
Congratulations Justin! Justin is a smart, dedicated man. He works in Toronto like many of you but still manages to get business done. Please re-read the post or read it for the first time as he shares many lessons he has learned from the streets. Justin the Rock Star Investor.
The last award of the night was for REIN’s Michael Millenaar Leadership Award for Ontario. To me this is the most important award, not because I was nomiated but because leaders have the most power to affect people and change. Even though I did not win, I am grateful and honoured to be nominated in the same category as the winner Tahani who’s story started off being born in a refugee camp, single mother immigrant. Today, she is a real estate builder and developer, author, motivational speaker, millionaire and if that doesn’t inspire you than nothing will. Congratulations Tahani!! You deserve it!!
What a great evening! Couldn’t think of a better way to kick off 2013 as it is going to be the best year to date. I hope you feel the same and I hope to see you at the next one! Till next time – Happy Investing Everyone!
