My latest wearable technology: I’m not a huge tech geek as I’m cynical about technology’s promises on how effective wearables (e.g. Apple iWatch, Fitbit, Garmin watch etc…) are. Plus, the sports I participate in; Crossfit and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can not be tracked by most wearables as I’m not tracking distance nor footsteps.
So my friends and trainer, Dan, recommend the Whoop.com (discount code GREENFIELD for $50 off). As with anything, I continue with my due diligence in researching their website. I read Ben Greenfield’s review. My friend, Mike Desormeaux, said it’s the best wearable he’s owned, so I was sold and ordered one. Amazingly, it was delivered the next day.
What I like about the device is the cool metrics and graphs provided by the iPhone app that syncs with the wearable. Here are some samples:
Recovery vs Strain.
Over the last seven days, based on my fitness level and sleep, how much did I recover vs. how much strain through exercise did I exert with my body.
Recovery has almost become a game to me. The biggest factor in recovery is sleep and, now that I can track the effectiveness of my sleep, I’m now often in bed well before 10pm in order to improve my performance. Last night I couldn’t fall asleep, hence my recovery was poor.
Above is when I went to sleep Sunday and my waking Monday. The Whoop automatically detects when you’re asleep based on movement and heart rate, and it’s been very accurate from my observations. Napping, not so much, I have to manually enter my start and end times for napping, which adjusts the required amount of sleep needed.
Here is my Monday night Brazilian Jiu Jitsu session tracking my heart rate. My heart rate apparently peaked as I was sparring with a kid half my age and 20lbs bigger than me. 😛
I am having a blast with this sport. Being busy with everything, I need a workout that is fun and practical. Jiu Jitsu gives me a great workout as you can see by the 1,312 calories burnt. I get to hang out with my awesome teammates, I’m always learning new things, and I’m learning how to defend myself.

In summary: In business there is a saying “what gets measured gets done” and these are the best metrics I’ve seen in measuring my health and fitness and I recommend this product.
Buying The First of Three Properties in 2017
This week, we’re doing something different. We do not have a guest, but instead you’re stuck with me! My plan is to buy three houses this year and we just locked up the first of three. I’d like to detail for you the lead up to the purchase, how the purchase went, and where we are going with it. If the listeners enjoy this episode, I’ll make a series of updates on how I invest.
Just to let you know, we have a new website where we will be posting all new and old podcast episodes, show notes, and contact info for our guests. The website is www.truthaboutrealestateinvesting.ca. Going forward, all our other websites will forward you to this website for simplicity. If you’re a newer listener, I highly recommend you go back and listen to previous guests for lessons on investing and stories of inspiration. Until next time, my name is Erwin Szeto, thank you for listening, and happy real estate investing.
